Home Standby vs. Portable

Your well-being depends on it!

Many customers have questions about the difference between a Home Standby or Portable Generator, and which solution is right for them. The option you choose will depend on several factors, including your power requirements.

Home Standby

  • Great for powering appliances
  • Permanently wired into your homes electrical panel
  • Standby Generators sense power outages within seconds
  • Designed to run either part of, or your whole home
  • Safe for sensitive electronics
  • No action required by you when the power goes out
  • Safely isolates utility power by means of a transfer switch
  • Connected to your homes Natural Gas or Propane supply. No need to refuel repeatedly
  • Automatically run a weekly test, on a day and time of your choice, to ensure your generator is functioning properly for when you need it

Portable

  • Versatile
  • Great for emergency power at home
  • Power in remote locations where utility power is not available (camping, boating & job sites)
  • Portable generators run on either gasoline or propane
  • Built in outlets ranging between 120 to 240 volts AC

APPLICATION ISSUES:

  • Portable generators need someone to start them manually with either, a pull cord or electronic starter
  • Generally used to power appliances and sump pumps
  • Not designed to power up sensitive electronics
  • Designed to run for several hours at a time, not for extended periods
